I was lucky enough to visit Palace on their final weekend at Ocean Drive and 12th Street and glad to see they're finding a new space so soon...
Looks like The Palace is going to make its comeback sooner than expected.
The Miami Beach drag queen haven, which shuttered on July 4 after the new owners hiked the rent on the beloved bar, announced on its Facebook Page that it will be popping up at The Clevelander Hotel until its new Ocean Drive venue is ready in the fall.
This Saturday marks the first Palace Sunset Tea Dance, which will take place on the C-Level Rooftop of the Clevelander. The performers will include fan faves like Tiffany Fantasia and Elishaly D’Witshes with music by Carlos Rojas. There is no cover and will be plenty of drink specials, according to the post.
The Palace announced the closing of its 1200 Ocean Drive location back in June. The venue had operated for 30 years and was one of the highlights of Ocean Drive tourism, but owner Thomas Donall explained to the Miami Herald that his negotiations with new owners, Infinity Real Estate, were unsuccessful. “The new rent is so high that we’d never survive,” Donall said.
This weekend’s pop up party will help satiate Palace fans who have been missing the venue. “I decided to produce a temporary weekly tea-dance party at the Clevelander C-Level Rooftop to employ my staff and performers until we move into our permanent home on Ocean Drive in the fall,” Donall told Miam.com. “I’m also doing this for our loyal Palace customers who we miss seeing every week. This will be a fun new party to keep the Palace Bar magic flowing until we announce our new location.”
