Chef Daniel Boulud Creates Emergency Relief Fund for His Workers

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chef Daniel Boulud has closed all of his New York City and Washington, D.C. restaurants. He has created an emergency relief foundation via GoFundMe to support his restaurant crew and staff who may need critical assistance.

Daniel Boulud writes via Instagram: "Over my last 35 years as a chef in New York City, I have always weathered the ups and downs of our business through the strength and dedication of my team. We always share the challenges and grow stronger by overcoming them together.

Today, it has been one week since we closed all of our restaurants. I miss my staff every day. I never imagined how hard it would be to not spend time with the myriad talented chefs, managers, kitchen brigade, and service crew who take pride in giving so much love and dedication to our customers.

Like many of my colleague chefs and restaurateurs around the globe, these past few days have been a marathon trying to manage the challenges facing our company at this time. We have been working tirelessly around the clock to make our voices heard. The industry is coming together collectively so that we are included in government plans as the damage is very serious to our employees and small business. Job protection and support funds are needed for them during this rough time.

We are all in this passionate and devoted business of giving happiness and fond memories through our food and service. Our strong belief in humanity and community is down, but with everyone’s support, we can rebuild it.

In the meantime, I have created HAND IN HAND, a Daniel Boulud Foundation (go to the link in my home page) It is a designated emergency relief fund for any of my employees in NY and DC who may experience particular hardship and need critical assistance.
