Yelp Pride is here. Yelp's Chief Diversity Officer, Miriam Warren, has announced that effective immediately, and in conjunction with Pride Month, they have implemented the option for all businesses to self-identify as LGBTQ-owned.
This is great news for dining establishments, bars and all food merchants. Throughout June, businesses falling under these categories, specifically, will be highlighted with rainbow map pins.
Since 2018, some businesses on Yelp have already identified as Open to All to signal a welcome and inclusive environment. For the month of June, these businesses in the same merchant categories will also be mapped with rainbow pins.
Ben & Jerry's, an Open to All merchant and program partner, will also have all of their Scoop Shops identified on Yelp with rainbow map pins.
Yelp also mentions that compared to last year, they've seen about a 150% increase in consumer searches for LGBTQ-owned business establishments.
LGBTQ-owned businesses who choose to self-identify will also recieve a Yelp "LGBTQ-owned" window decal.
If you already have a business registered with Yelp, look out for their LGBTQ+ resources hub online.
The review and search tool company states that to enroll in the "LGBTQ-Owned" or "Open to All" business identification & search feature, follow these steps:
Log in to your Yelp for Business account
Click "Add" or "Edit" under Amenities
Check "Yes" next to "LGBTQ-owned" and / or "Open to All"
Yelp has also promised to monitor and remove any hate comments that violate their guidelines and / or pose harm to the LGBTQ community.
Will your business be self-identifying and taking advantage of Yelp's new feature? Drop us a note and let us know why or why not.
Happy Pride 2021.
